Interesting book

Emily doesn't know what hit her. One day, she believes that she has a perfect life - a wonderful, caring doctor husband who adores her, a baby on the way, and a comfortable, financially-secure lifestyle. The next day, her life literally goes up in flames - she discovers that her "devoted husband" really had a mistress on the side and had died in her arms from smoke inhalation, her life isn't so financially secure thanks to her husband's reckless spending, and everything she had ever hoped for is gone. The only small comfort in her life is the child she is expecting, her own little miracle baby.
Dillon, Emily's brother-in-law, is determined to take care of his brother's wife, despite having kept her at a distance for the seven years of her marriage. Emily does not know that her handsome, brooding brother-in-law has been in love with her since he first met her. Emily also does not know that it isn't her husband's child she is carrying, after all - but Dillon's child. Can Dillon win Emily's heart after finally given the opportunity, or will the secrets he keeps tear them apart before they can begin?
I really enjoyed this story. Dillon was a great hero - strong, intense, and fiercely devoted to Emily and the baby. Emily was also a great heroine for him - she too had a strong character, which was obvious when she kept going even after the fullness of her husband's betrayals became known to her. Some of the secondary characters (particularly Adele, Emily's mother-in-law) were one-dimensional and could have been fleshed out a little more, but that's not a major flaw in the story line or anything like that. Dillon and Emily's relationship progressed over time and seemed completely natural, almost like this could really happen in real life :) So if you want to spend a few hours with a pleasant, heart-warming read, pick up this book! :)

Truly Romantic

Yes, I know this is a Silhouette book but its a great read!

Emily McGuire's husband, prominent doctor Keith McGuire is dead, he was in a fire, in bed with his mistress - in the house he kept for her. Emily has just learned that after years of trying she is finally pregnant and now its all over and her world is in shambles. She had no idea that he was cheating. After going through the funeral and all the gossip, she's ready to start her life over but she needs a job and she doesn't know what to do next. She's never been close to the rest of Keith's family, her mother is dead and she has no other family.

Dillion, Keith's brother has never been friendly to Emily, she feels that he doesn't like her and she's never comfortable with him but after the funeral Dillion steps in and handles all the details - he wants her to rely on him but since she won't he offers her a job and helps her get an apartment (nothing is left after all the bills are paid). After Emily determines that the offer of a job is not a move to give her money for doing nothing she and Dillion become friends. But there are still secrets that need to be told and confessions that need to be made.

I love Ginna Gray books, her later books are very good but these have great story lines and the content is wonderful. When you're in the mood for a hea without too much hassle or drama, this is what I like to read and yes, it does deserve a 5 based on what it is and who wrote it. The best of Silhouette!

Hero fell in love with heroine 1st but his brother married her instead **SPOILERS**

Pregnant heroine accepts the job offer of her recently-deceased husband's brother. She's always felt uncomfortable around him but she has no choice but to accept his job offer due to the huge debts her cheating husband incurred without her knowledge. Hero fell in love with her since they first met 7 years ago but his brother wooed her first. He hid his love for her by being aloof around her but now that she's single, in need, and pregnant with his baby without her knowledge he is compelled to help her as much as she allows him. Heroine warms up to him as she gets to know him in the next few months. His sudden marriage proposal makes her unsure if his motives are solely because of the baby or if she has a chance to be loved by him.

What I liked most about this book was the sensitivity & realism Gray gave to the development of heroine's love for Hero. It took her months to reconcile herself with the true nature of her cheating husband and to fall in love with Hero. But in the meantime the build-up of heroine's emotions & sexual awareness of Hero became more intense. Hero's perseverance towards supporting her & hopefully making her love him as a result was touching. Hero wasn't celibate during the 7 years he was pining for her but when she became a widow the other women who visited him were no longer appealing. He stayed celibate during the 11 months he waited for her to reciprocate his attraction.

Hero was quiet, aloof & dominant in general but he showed his sensitivity, caring, & patience by the things he did for heroine. I loved how his assistant-cum-2nd-mother revealed to heroine at the end that Hero kept a picture of her in his desk while she was still married. He acted like he didn't care for her but inside he was a hotbed of deep, pining love for heroine. I understood his reasons for constantly delaying his confession that he was the sperm donor of her baby. He had integrity but his fear of losing her superceded it. I wished the ending was just a tad longer with Hero & heroine discussing Hero's reasons for keeping his secret for her & for more sex scenes.

It is clear Gaiman has a great interest in the subject and he put a lot ...

I bought this book right when it released at midnight and being hard to put down, I read it completely through the night. It was a fairly quick read but very enjoyable. As I recently read my first novel by Gaiman, I was interested in his writing style and intrigued to hear he would be retelling Norse Mythology.

Coming into the book, I only knew the basics of Norse Mythology so I was excited to learn more about it. It is clear Gaiman has a great interest in the subject and he put a lot of care into it. These are stories that have been told over and over again and this is another retelling to pass through the countless generations these stories have survived.

He retells the stories as chronologically as you can, and keeps the story flowing as it jumps around each chapter telling a new story and each story just as interesting as the last. The stories he chose were all fascinating, there wasn't a single one that was boring.

If you want to find out more about Norse Mythology this is definitely a fantastic read and a good place to start.

Have you ever read the Prose Edda or the Poetic Edda? Painful. Gaiman's Norse Mythology is a joy.

Some complain that when compared to Gaiman's other works, Norse Mythology falls a bit flat. The goal of this project was not to tell new stories, but to breath new life into the old stories. Gaiman stays true to the source materials and presents the stories of Thor and Odin and Loki and all of the Norse gods in a language that feels fresh and engaging. I've worked my way through the Prose Edda and the Poetic Edda and they are anything but an easy read. The prose of a millennia past is something of a hot mess. Gaiman has done all of the painful research for us and given us the old stories gift-wrapped in tight, modern language and a clarity and singular narrative that old Snorri Sturluson was incapable of providing. If you want new and exciting stories about Thor and the gang, pick up a Marvel Comic book or Rick Riodan's Magus Chase series. But if you have a genuine academic interest in the old Norse stories, you'll learn more from spending a day with Gaiman's Norse mythology than you will learn from spending a year sifting through the Prose and Poetic Edda and it will be a hell of a lot more fun.

A fairly crushing disappointment

If you're looking for Gaiman's trademark charm, you'd be far better off revisiting Odd and the Frost Giants.

If you're looking for an excellent collection of the Norse myths for adults, you'd be better off reading almost any alternative. At times, one may as well be reading Marvel's Thor comics.

Let's be blunt: Gaiman is not a scholar in this area. He isn't translating these from Old Norse or Gutnish. He's summarizing what he read in superior volumes by people like Kevin Crossley-Holland, E.O.G. Turville-Petre and H.R. Ellis Davidson. And people familiar with certain English translations will likely be shocked at the number of phrases lifted directly from them. I wasn't really prepared for this to diminished Gaiman in my eyes, but it has. I keep reminding myself that this was a labor of love and a great opportunity to introduce his huge audience to these myths, but... Honestly, it leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth.

So what we have here is a perfectly serviceable way to introduce children to Norse mythology. It's the kind of book you can read to them at bedtime--bowdlerizing where appropriate--then give to them a few years later to read on their own. I strongly suspect, in fact, that this is exactly what Gaiman was going for. If it was, the work has been a success.

However, even for that, I can't really say that I would recommend this. The D’Aulaires’ Book of Norse Myths is a far better choice.

Evelyn Panelli is of Italian, black, and Irish descent, with red hair and blue-green eyes and with the demeanor of a boy. She has lived a rough life in the streets as a member of the all-girl family, Twenty-Gang. At 17 she is sentenced to a jail term of no less than 18 months but no longer than two years in a juvenile detention center. Upon release, Eve quickly resumes her criminal lifestyle as a strong-arm robber. She also comes home to discover that her former partners, Felon and Butter, are now kings of the street. She and Felon have always had an attraction to one another but have maintained a business relationship. The DeNardises, a powerful Italian family, want to do more business in Harlem, but the son, Carlos, hates doing business with Butter and goes after his girl, Cassidy. The stakes are raised when Butter learns that Cassidy and Carlos have been dealing with one another. The conflict escalates, which forces Eve to single-handedly seek revenge for her family. Perhaps The First Modern Poet.

Contained in this collection are most if not all of Blake's most essential works,including "The Marriage Of Heaven & Hell";the two songs,"Auguries Of Innocence"; etc..In the creative fertility of this great poet came some of the greatest lines ever written in the English language,or any language for that matter.His conjuring of visions perhaps is the first written document of modern poetry,heralding what is to come.

What immortal hand or eye

The prophetic Blake of Zoas, Jerusalem , and the other long -poems has always escaped me.

The Blake of the short memorable lyrics , of the 'Songs of Innocence and Experience' reverberates in my mind.

The Blake of proverb always strikes a strong note.

All the radical ideology ,and the fervor of an upturner of worlds , the solitary angry social critic too has not meant that much to me.

But 'Little Lamb who made thee/Dost thou know who made thee?/

and Tyger/Tyger/ Burning bright in the forest of the night/ these fascinate as only real poetry does.

Dewy Blake

'Dewy Blake', the title of this review, is poking fun at the author's over use of the word dew, meaning precipitation and moisture. Truth be told, I found this collection mostly underwhelming, despite Blake's reputation as a first rank poet.

Of the selections I read - I confess that I skim read much of Jerusalem and the last eighty pages of the book - I think I enjoyed King Edward The Third the most as the short play is full of vigorous turns of phrase and lively exchanges as well as the short story Tiriel which had something of the Greek tradition about it.

Overall, however, I struggled to get a grip with Blake's poetising, unmoved and uninterested in the esoteric, theological and surreal imagery of his work and, for me at least, the rather flimsy philosophical underpinnings of his epigrams and life observations.

Yes, Satan can inspire poetic creation, and so can Jesus and the myriad of obscure names of people and places that litter this collection, but if esotericism divorced from natural law wisdom is all that is on offer, I'm happier reading internet poetry on Tumblr!

I accept that this review entirely reflects my own poetic preferences which dislikes surrealism and fiery imagery in favour of sober and elegant linguistic usage but to my credit I read three quarters of the book closely before giving up on Blake's theological mindscapes which I found, well, boring.

It is very early days in my journey with English poetry but I hope I find authors more congenial to my literary tastes than 'the prophet' William Blake.

Three stars.

My time with the Blackbirds.

In its genre, this book and the trilogy it is part of is riveting. M.M.Gavillet masters the art of suspense and the reader cannot put the book down. (the Kindle in my case). Every page keeps you hanging onto the next page and you cannot anticipate where it will go next. The seemingly improbable becomes reality and takes you on a trip into a world our protagonist from sleepy St.Francisville could never imagine. Emily and her friends jump on a magical journey fraught with danger and take you with them. I hope M.M. writes more.

Huge book and there are SO many typos and incorrect information in this book (ex: this books says that cations are negatively charged ions like chloride and anions are positively charged ions like Mg, Ca, K. Come on guys thats like High school chemistry right there. They should fire their editor! ) Also the davis advantage program that comes with the book has many many incorrect answers and inconsistencies.
