I love this book and so do my friends!

This is a compact book of Catholic traditions, practices and prayers that my friends appreciate and put to use with their families and activities. It was invaluable on a Holy Land Pilgrimage because it is compact and convenient to carry in a purse or pocket and provides prayers that supported the sites we visited.
Better yet, it is updated to the new English translation of the Roman Missal, so the Holy Mass parts are current. A must have for every Catholic.

Popular is an incredible, hilarious, and achingly honest and emotional memoir about popularity. It asks and answers, what is the definition of being popular? Is it to have the most friends, be the most respected and known at school, is it to be the prettiest or the one that is best at sports?

Maya Van Wagenen’s journey is a real life social experiment and she’s written her day to day accounts of following a vintage guide to popularity - Betty Cornell’s Teenage Popularity Guide. Each chapter, she follows a different part of the Guide, and slowly works her way up to the major changes she’ll have to make. It’s sprinkled with charming photos of her and her family, and Maya’s honesty, wit and bravery shines through her words and her photos.

At the start, Maya is an insecure teenager at the bottom of her schools’ social ladder. She feels fat and ugly and gets teased and bullied by countless people at school. Seeing her transformation into a confident, self-assured girl who makes a mark on her peers was extraordinary. From changing her hair everyday, to wearing vintage 1950s gear to school, to sitting at different tables dominated by the different subgroups at school, nothing is out of bounds in her quest for popularity. No matter how embarrassing it is, Maya is to be admired for her bravery and devotion to Betty Cornell’s advice.

The glimpses of the rough neighbourhood on the Mexican border that Maya lived in were fascinating, as a world so different from mine. Mexican drug lords making a deal? No problem. Pregnant teens and gangster members at her school? Sure. The school under threat from an armed assailant? Just another walk in the park.

This book made me laugh (Hobbit monologue anyone), it made me cry, and it made me root for Maya and hope for the best. I absolutely LOVED this book for the inspirational message behind it. It helps us understand that things are never what we perceive them to be and if we take time to find out about the wonderful people around us, we will be rewarded with the same respect and consideration too.

Maya’s journey was an inspirational one, and her achievement of being a published author at 15 is amazing. Her memoir hits home that no matter how impossible the task is, if you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything.

For anyone who ever felt unsure of themselves, this book is for you.

Simply Wonderful

I bought this book after seeing an online interview with the author (Kathy and Hoda?) - I was curious, so I downloaded the Kindle sample and was smitten. This girl can write! This is a fun book - I read it in a night - and enjoyed it so much. I can't wait to see what the future holds for author Maya Van Wagenen - I am pretty sure this is the first of many great books she will write. Looking forward to her next book. Oh, and in the meantime, I might just have to read Betty Cornell's original book that inspired Maya. :-)

YES, buy this book! It's wonderful!!!

I belong to a Young Adult book group (I'm just about to turn 50 but I still love reading kid lit and YA novels... good ones). And this is a GREAT one. My friend who has a 14 year old daughter told me about this book so I looked into it. Love that it's a memoir. Love the theme and I wish I had this book when I was in school. I suggested it to our book group and we decided to all read it. I thought I'd read it and pass it along to my friend's daughter, but I think I'll have to keep it. I'll definitely would enjoy reading it again. I'll buy another copy to give to my friend's daughter. Again, I can't tell you how delighted I am with the whole thing. Her awesomely supportive family, the whole idea of how she followed Betty's 1950's book to the letter (vaseline on the eyelids and wearing panty girdles! Who knew they still even made panty girdles!), and Maya's utter bravery. Wow. I could not have done that at her age. I'm not sure I could do it now. What I didn't realize when I first heard about the book is that she told no one that's what she was doing, following the advice of this 1950's book. No one except her family knew, not even her best friend Kenzie. Where it REALLY got me was the month of April's theme: "A Popular Attitude". And then everything starts tying together. It's a wonderful lesson for anyone at any age. No spoilers here (that's a pet peeve of mine) but you will NOT be disappointed. I am so thrilled for Maya. It was a wonderful read. Good introduction to MS FSX

This book is a very good, rank beginner introduction to MS FSX. It seems to get polarized reviews, perhaps owing to disappointment that it is quite basic. I almost did not buy it, but it was the only book on the market, so I jumped in and I am very satisfied with the manual. It helped me get started with FSX, which is a very complex piece of software. I had no previous flight sim experience. There are detailed instructions and graphics, and the book provides a good overview of the FSX environment. There are about the average number of typos for a software instruction manual, and I did not find them distracting. So I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is new to MS Flight Simulator and wants to get off the ground.

I had a chance to flip through this atlas ( I was looking for a quick reference in view of reviewing
CATs & MRIs with a USMLE slant).The text is system based,the lay-out straightforward (there are CAT sections & numbers filling up anatomic structures).There are few didactic diagrams,image quality on the other hand is good so basically this stimulates the student to get acquainted
swiftly with CATs. Ultrasounds are also good quality ( encouraging for beginners..).Joints pics and angiograms fair (latter not always).Nuclear medicine section a bit "oldy".

Great atlas for me starting out my radiology training. High quality images of radiographs, CT, MRI, angio, fluro, and US. Has multiple modalities in many slices, and adult vs child images which is nice. I wish the book wasn't so large, makes it a little hard to fit in my bag.

Very detailed. Useful for my imaging class.

I am using this book for by Image-based Anatomy class and I must say I would not be able to survive the class without it. The picture sequence is very clear and the writer provides appropriate number of images for each scan plane. The information given is accurate. Sometimes, looking at sequences of picture gives you a much better learning experience than looking at a real moving sequence MRI/CT since you actually have a chance to digest information and observe every detail of the picture.

Some cons: I would appreciate a more detailed labeling for the pelvis and the lower limb part. Sometimes, the labeling is inconsistent. I would prefer the author using femoral head through the book instead of switching back and forth between head of femur and femoral head, for example. (I can't recall specific examples right now, but there are such inconsistencies in the book, which is really minor and does not obstruct your understanding at all.)

Overall, a great book that I would recommend to anyone who is studying medical imaging.

Kandeepan Sithhamparanathan is a group leader and senior researcher at Cognitive Information Networks Group, Create-Net research Centre, Trento, Italy. He holds an M.Eng. in telecommunications and a Ph.D. in communications, both from the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia. Andrea Giorgetti is an assistant professor in the Department of Electronics, Computer Sciences and Systems at the University of Bologna in Italy. He received his Laurea degree in electronic engineering and his Ph.D. in electronic engineering and computer science, both from the University of Bologna.

Are you an engineer who is practicing cognitive radio related developments? If you are, then this book is for you. Authors Kandeepan Sithamparanathan and Andrea Giorgetti, have done an outstanding job of writing a book that treats some of the core functionalities related to cognitive radios and provides an in-depth and a wide range of knowledge for enabling the technology.

Authors Sithamparanathan and Giorgetti, begin by explaining the cognitive cycle, cognitive engine, and the latest advancements around the world in terms of standardizations and applications. Next, the authors provide the preliminaries for understanding spectrum sensing. In addition, they then present some of the basic spectrum sensing techniques, along with their statistical performance evaluations. The authors also present a good insight into how spectrum sensing techniques perform, considering the temporal variations in radio environments. Then, they continue with a presentation of collaborative spectrum sensing to enhance the performance in a cognitive radio network. The authors then describe some advanced spectrum sensing topics that may be considered by researchers and students to pursue further research. Next, they provide the fundamentals of coexistence and interference mitigation, followed by the coexistence analysis. In addition, the authors present various interference models. They also cover the coexistence in network scenarios. Then, they cover interference mitigation techniques and advanced interference mitigation techniques. The authors also present some fundamentals of localization and tracking for cognitive radios considering various approaches.
