Things go terribly wrong when Red leads Kaneesha to a hotel party to score drugs in exchange for sex, a decision she ll regret. Will the dangerous move cause Kaneesha to trade a life of peril to be the mother she always knew she could be? Or will she surrender to its power and seduction? Crack is Wack

I thoroughly enjoyed "Year of the CrackMom". This story is real, gritty and down & dirty. There is no sugar coating the power of a crack addiction, and this author "V.J. Gotastory" does not shy away from the truth!!

Kaneesha and Jarvis are a couple struggling to make it. They both want a better life for themselves and Kaneesha's son Hysear. They move to a new neighborhood after their current landlord goes into foreclosure and are trying to make it work. Jarvis is soon hustlin' for local drug lord, a ruthless Jamaicaian named Stone. Kaneesha is soon friends with the neighborhood crack queen, Reds. Occassional coke sniffing soon lands both of Jarvis & Kaneesha into trouble as full fledged crack addicts. Reds, Jarvis and Kaneesha are smoking almost daily and Kaneesha soon finds getting high her number one priority, and soon she is loosing her good looks, her son and even Jarvis. Lies are told, drugs are stolen, beatdowns are given, sex is sold for drugs and crack is smoked in the pages of this 5 star MUST READ!!!

Crack Is Wack & So Was This Book At Certain Times.

When I first discovered Crackmom I had some high expectation for this book,but
after reading it this book came up a little bit short & left me disappointed by
the end.Dont get it twisted despite the way I started this review Crackmom is a
decent well written book.The main characters Kaneesha & her boyfriend Jarvis go
to hell & back once they are introduced to crack & develope an addiction that
they can never satisfy.They loose there jobs,section 8 apt & self respect trying
to feed there habit on a dailt basis.Reds was a pregnant crack whore who knew
all the rules of the crack game & got money for her habit by any means necessary.
She befriends Kaneesha & the 2 women do what they have to do to get there next
hit.On the cover of the book it said this novel almost didn't get published
because it's so chilling,brutal & honest,dont believe the hype,this book reads
like an R rated movie,nothing more,nothing less.This is a very negative & sad
book but it's the perfect blueprint to what can happen to anyone who gets into
smoking crack but just like my review title says "Crack is Wack" period.

While I wanted more details and grittiness out of this book, it was still pretty good. This book does a good job of telling how some people slip into the life of a crackhead. The reviews and covers hyped it up to be so raw that you may not be able to get through the book. This was not the case at all. The book basically told the story of a young mother who was maintaining her life with her boyfriend and son. After learning that her boyfriend was a crack smoker, she too jumped on the bandwagon. As you already know, the rest from there was downhill. The book was pretty good. Nothing that those faint at heart can't read though.

Good tutorial structured book for new users

I recently read the book Learning Articulate Storyline by Stephanie Harnett.

I've always admired Stephanie's work and was excited to see how she approached her book. You can see Stephanie's work at her website (all built in Storyline) and in her super-informative Screenrs.

As an avid Articulate Storyline developer, I wanted to find a resource that I could use with my contractors and even clients to get them up to speed on how to use the software. Since there is no official "user manual", this book offers a really nice self-directed learning resource to learning the product, with some bonuses:

-Stephanie's deep understanding from an instructional authoring perspective. While I know Stephanie is a talented instructional designer, it really shines through in her approach to the book. She gives advice that is both feature rich, but more importantly, it's written from the perspective of "why should I do this".
-Her "voice" shines through - everything she explains reads exactly like she was sitting beside me talking me through things.
-Samples and examples she points to at the beginning of Chapter 4: Adding Characters and Audio, and the additional resources/links in the summary of Chapter 7 are like instructional design gold!
There are exercises to follow along step by step with the flow of the book, which was nice. Since I have experience with the software it's hard for me to know how a complete novice would find the structure of these exercises, but they were logical and easy to follow for me .

Minor things I'd like to see in future editions:

-I would have liked to have seen some of the tips in the chapter: Rapid Development show up in the beginning of the book, as she raises some great points about setting up for re-purposing which might affect how you approach a project from the beginning.
-I would have also liked there to be a bit more visual distinction in the "follow along" sections, just to make them pop (I was working with an epub version), but that's a personal preference. Additional icons would enhance the navigation of the book.
-I would have loved to seen the types of examples provided in Chapter 4 for other chapters: Quizzing, States and Layers, Variables and Adding Visual Media.

Overall, this is a great book to help someone get up to speed quickly on Storyline and even a seasoned user will pick up a tip or two.

Good for beginners

I started using Storyline (SL) a year or so ago, and this is the first book I get to read since then. If you are an SL beginner this book might be a good start for you. The first chapters will provide you with a lengthy explanation regarding SL's interface, and creating and saving projects. Storyline's interface is very intuitive, and if you are familiar with PowerPoint then Storyline will be easy, but this book gives you pretty good basics on how to start.

If you are impatience like me then you may enjoy jumping to the chapter exercises. These are very descriptive (great for beginners) as the steps are accompanied by screen captures. I would've loved counting on an appendix with some of Storyline's shortcuts keys. These always come handy. Some of them are similar to those used in PP, but obviously there are new ones. I found some I had no idea about.

There is one chapter regarding Storyline variables. This is very important if you want to add more interactivity or control paths or actions based on specific conditions. Being a former computer programmer using variables in Storyline was a bit easy, but I admit that having a book with this information would've helped me more.

Overall I like the structure of this book as it guides you from the basics through more complex features that Storyline offers, but like I said this is good for beginners. The Articulate Community has tons of resources for those with an "exploratory" nature. You can review Articulate Community video tutorials and learn a great deal. If you feel lost with the videos then you may want to carry a handy-dandy resource like this book.

A Solid but Imperfect Introduction to Articulate Storyline

I was asked by the publisher to review this book. I agree with much of what has been said by others here; the book includes all the topics one would expect for an introductory book about Articulate Storyline, and most of the information is very clearly presented. I was not troubled by the absence of discussion about how to handle client reviews, etc., as I would consider that a bit outside the realm of a book aimed at teaching functionality of a software program. It would be a "nice to have" item for a book with broader scope, to be sure. But what did trouble me in this book was the high number of copy editing and proofreading errors, some of which made for confusing reading. All in all, it's a solid book, if you're willing to overlook the flaws in its text. As others have observed, this book seems clearly aimed at a new user, who will probably appreciate all the step-by-step exercises that take up a fair amount of space through the course of the book.

One thing I did note in my review is that Articulate Storyline has now been out 18+ months, which means users are expecting a new version 2 of the software in coming months. I'm hopeful that Packt Publishing will take the opportunity of correcting all the little editing/proofreading issues when they update this book.

This book is not for reading. If you have a plant in mind and want to get a start on what properties it has this is your book. Best book on earth for that, may not have the exact species you are looking for but it will have the genus and your species will likely have almost identical properties.

Dark romance with boxing background

This is a rather dark and tough-minded book about a young woman growing up in the foster care system of Baltimore whose friends and few relatives are embroiled in drugs and crime. She finds an outlet in boxing and is smitten by a male boxer -- and yet also repelled. Her upbringing has made her resistant to any kind of reliance on anyone else. For much of the book, the narrative is rather compelling and the love affair, when it erupts, is convincing. The descriptions of boxing and training are also interesting. But as the book progresses, we get less and less boxing and more and more melodrama revolving around criminal gang violence. The book ends with nothing resolved -- you have to read on to the next installment to find out what happens -- and I'm not interested enough to do that. I must say I thoroughly dislike these kinds of books which leave the reader hanging. It's fine to write trilogies - but each volume needs to stand alone and end with some closure.

Can't wait for book 2!

This was a great read from start to finish, definitely one of those hard to put down page turners. Ashley Claudy has created an exciting romance novel that has substance, depth of character, intrigue, laugh and cry moments, along with exciting action scenes. I have read a few sports/romance books in my time and this one is probably the best I've ever read.

I loved the characters. Gage is a bad ass alpha male but he is also so much more and Reagan, our heroine, is no shrinking violet. Infact all the characters throughout the book really come to life. The author is skilled at dialogue, throughout the story I found it all very believable.

When I first started reading I was a little unsure if I would like the first person point of view as I tend not to like reading in this pov. But once past the first page I'd have had to think twice about which pov it was written in. It completely disappeared. Kudos to the author.

My only negative about the whole book is that this is book 1 and I have to wait until March for the second part!

Emotionally Gripping

Ms. Claudy can certainly tell a good story. Her writing is tight, her pacing flows, her characters are rich and three-dimensional, and the dialogue feels authentic.

I am enamored with Regan. She's tough, tender, hard-as-nails, and vulnerable. I feel her pulse beating in my chest. A no-nonsense heroine, a fierce friend, a champion. I so want her to find her HEA.

Gage. Anthony. Silas. Dexter. Four prominent male figures interacting with Regan, each trying to sway her, to persuade her to their way of thinking. Each strong in their own right. Each weak over her.

A good supporting cast of characters, too. I adore Nan. My heart broke. James. Leona. All of them. Made real by this talented writer.

Only "peeve" I had was the author's choice to not use apostrophes. I don't understand why she chose to put significance on something that isn't affected by speech, but is visible in print. It annoyed me enough to warrant mention.

I am about to pick up the next book in the series. I care about these characters too much to stop reading now.

Favorite in the Fifth Grade

I am a fifth grade teacher and I bought this book for my class. The students just love it! This book is crammed full of really high-energy cartoon images with instructions on how to draw them. Every day, students ask to borrow this book. I have other art and cartoon books in my classroom, but this one is their all-time favorite.

This book is great! There are a ton of helpful tips and techniques that range from how to draw facial expressions and body types to how to draw ice cubes and water... and even how to convey wind or rain. The author, Christopher Hart, even explains why cartoon characters have only three fingers.
This book is very clear, very informative and very funny! I highly recommend this book!

Everything this man draws is worth gold to beginning and intermediate (and probably advanced; I'm not that far yet) cartoonists! I bought this book for the cats, lions, and bears and discovered apes, skunk, mice, pigs and more, plus many human figures with hats,mustaches, etc. More imporantly, it discusses the principles of layout, how to create distance, depth, the use of props, backgrounds, angles and silhouettes. Wheh! A lot to learn, but so much fun. One of Hart's best books!!
