Love love loooooooove this one!!

I think I have found my favorite in this amazing series!!!!
Each book is getting hotter, more touching in some kind of romantic feely ways and a lot more Action is coming, too! I so love this series and MC and can't get enough.
What caught me on this book the instant I started reading it, was Deviant. He is just a rough tough guy that hasn't found the real one thing that would get him head over heals, if he wants it or not.
And shy sweet Tage, I fall in love the second time in this book. At first you think "Will this ever work out between them?"...well, I won't say anything that could spoil. But James, to see them....AWESOME!!
And the scene with Liam at the clubhouse or Lily...you got me in tears there!!
This book really has it all: some rough or lean hot men, romantic aspects, a lot of action and surprises and damn sexy scenes that will make you blush, just the way Deviant likes it!
I can't wait to read on and I am really hoping that time flies by so easily I will get the next installment before my nails are vanished from biting them in longing for the next "Cox" to get in my greedy hands! Love you, James, and your great books!

Bikers in sppaaaaaacce and I want moooooore! Is there anything better than a sexy biker? (well, maybe a pirate? hint, hint author for your next series?), this book was Deviant's story and for me, the best so far. In less than 160 pages, the author painted this little masterpiece with a firm, but gentle brush stroke, creating the perfect edition to this great series. The prologue set the pace. The whole book was fast and furious, we even got Amazons, a bit of wax play (nice one author) and a "oh no" moment I certainly wasn't expecting! "I want inside you. Rough. Deep. Gentle. Forever". Poetical moment? Hell no! Deviant doesn't do poetical......he just has these sexy times when he melts the readers hearts. James Cox doesn't write "fluffy"' he goes straight for the jugular with man-on-man, sweaty, dirty sex and it's good, so very good. Love the premise of the storyline - the bad guys are really the good guys and the so-called good guys, the bad guys. It's going to be a long wait until May before the next book. 5* ride all the way for me.

Awe….Deviant has a heart. So you mean that rough and tough language is just a front???

It was a nice change of pass to have a little more of a “story” with this installment. Although it’s a M/M read, it was still nice that the author “softened” it up a little with bringing Lily, Deviant’s sister into the mix.

It’s funny, I usually like some detail and anticipation, but every time I read this author, I really like the fact that he’s straight forward and to the point. I guess you have to be when writing a novella.

So let me guess…who’s next??? Mayheim? Romeo? Enquiring minds want to know….

What a blessing

My sister and I listened to this book from Audible and I am now reading his other book. Such a sweet, well written story of despair and hope.Having just lost a husband less than a year ago, I can certainly relate to his sorrow and feelings of worthlessness - being old and useless. What a blessing this book as been to me.

An amazing feel-good story

This is a gem of a feel-good debut novel about A MAN CALLED OVE by Swedish author and blogger Fredrik Backman. It will make you laugh and make you cry and you will remember Ove for a long time.

Some would call Ove a curmudgeon, a lovely word meaning a bad-tempered, difficult, cantankerous person. His wife called him the most inflexible man in the world - he borders on being obsessive compulsive but is generally a grumpy man who doesn't tolerate fools and likes things to be done that way he wants them. While many think that he is just a rude and grumpy man, at heart you will find out that he is one of the kindest persons you will ever know.

Ove is a 59 years old widower who has just been arbitrarily retired after 30 years in the same job. His world now revolves around his home and neighbourhood housing complex where he rules the roost making sure that all local rules and regulations are followed. He is very lonely since his wife died, he quarrelled with his best friend and neighbour years ago and rarely has contact with his neighbours.

Ove's world is one of anger and sadness. One day a new neighbour accidentally flattens Ove's mailbox driving in an area where vehicles are prohibited. This starts a very amusing, heartwarming and frequently very sad story as Ove's rigidly structured world is disrupted by unexpected friendship from Parvaneh, a vivacious small and very pregnant Iranian woman who has moved in next door with her Swedish husband Patrick and two girls. Parvaneh is perhaps the only person who can take on Ove directly and win, and starts to change his life for the better.

We also go back to how Ove met his vivacious and loving wife Sonja who was the direct opposite of Ove. At a critical time in her life she said to him "We can busy ourselves with living or dying, Ove. We have to move on." Now a widower Ove is struggling to move on.

This is one of the best feel-good stories I have read for some time and it gets a place in my best books for 2014. I strongly recommend it to someone who wants to read something different that will hit at your heart. If you are emotionally affected by books I strongly suggest keeping a box of tissues handy.

I absolutely loved this book

This was one of those accidental finds--meandering through book choices and came across it. I absolutely loved this book. It is funny, tender, thoughtful and thought-provoking. The character of Ove seemed a bit too curmudgeony at first, but as his story unfolded, it all fit. A touching perspective on loss and what it means to choose life and figure out one's new role as a loner. It also celebrates the importance of coincidence and embracing what life brings.
Laughed out loud and blubbered like a baby--what more can one ask of a book? Heartily recommend A Man Called Ove.

Judith A. Cohen, MD, a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist, is Medical Director of the Center for Traumatic Stress in Children and Adolescents at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Professor of Psychiatry at Drexel University College of Medicine. Since 1983, Dr. Cohen has conducted research on the assessment and treatment of traumatized children. With Anthony P. Mannarino and Esther Deblinger, she has developed and tested TF-CBT for children and their nonoffending parents. She has served on the boards of directors of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC) and the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS), and is a recipient of the Sarah Haley Memorial Award for Clinical Excellence from ISTSS, the Outstanding Professional Award from APSAC, and the Rieger Award for Scientific Achievement from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP). She is coauthor of the treatment guidelines for treating posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) published by ISTSS and principal author of the practice parameters for treating PTSD in children and adolescents published by AACAP. Dr. Deblinger has conducted extensive research on the mental health impact of child abuse and the treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder and other abuse-related difficulties. I primarily work with adolescents with complex trauma and attachment based disorders. When I was first exposed to TF-CBT, I was concerned about its use with complex trauma. Clients who suffer from complex trauma, typically suffer from the developmental effects of the trauma exposure, rendering them quite vulnerable to the day to day stressors several years later when unresolved. With their Stress Response Systems typically compromised, traditional top-down skill building strategies are typically not efficient enough to prepare children with these histories to process their narrative without the possibility of re-tramatization. With TF-CBT being a "16" session based approach (with the caveat that sessions have to be mastered prior to moving on), this didn't seem feasible for the "phase based approach" that is more the standard right now with children and adolescents with complex trauma. The chapter in this book on "Adolescents with Complex Trauma" was such a relief to me. This chapter, for the most part, completely covers what is missing, in my opinion, from the traditional TF-CBT approach when it comes to complex trauma. (You will need the first book to learn about the actual approach - this books talks about the modifications based on different child/adolescent populations and settings).

You will also need to verse yourself in bottom up strategies, and the information that neuroscience is adding to the field of complex trauma. There are many helpful resources at the end of this chapter for further reading. I have found that a good amount of time needs to be spent on teaching the "mapping" of distress episodes, i.e. from environmental trigger, to visceral cueing, to emotional identification, the thought development to behaviors. With younger children we teach, "A trigger can prompt a big emotion, which can prompt a big behavior. We have to learn to make the big emotion smaller, so we don't have the big behavior." This is critical prior to starting narrative processing. Narrative processing will generate big emotions, clients have to be able to recognize they are having the big emotion (typically through being attuned to visceral cueing), then they have to know how to make the big emotion smaller, so they can build their tolerance to these emotions for healthier day to day living and to support trauma processing.

The initial phase of treatment is critical for this population, and over and over research is showing to "not" move into trauma narrative processing until enhanced emotional regulation and use of relationships is mastered. This time frame is dictated by the client, and can take considerably longer than what the TF-CBT model typically shows to be successful. This is typically measured by the client's capacity to handle the therapy sessions "and" be able to use co-regulation of the therapist to maintain a healthy distress state when trauma cues come up. Additionally, when clients are able to show enhanced emotional regulation/behavioral regulation during day to day (here and now) stressors - their Stress Response System is showing a higher capacity to tolerate stress in general; hence indicating they may be ready for processing of the trauma narrative/trauma themes.

I have found in my work a need to STRESS that trauma informed work is "NOT" just processing the trauma narrative, but it focuses on enhancing those capacities that were compromised or disrupted at a young age, in order to enhance quality of life - not just to ready the client for trauma narrative processing. The skills built in the 1st phase of treatment alone can allow for relief to the client in feeling more safe and regulated during day to day experiences. Additionally, the addition of learning to use "safe" caregiving relationships effectively is imperative to future healthy interpersonal relationships. So, focusing on both affect regulation AND use of relationships is key in trauma informed work when working with children/adolescents with complex trauma and attachment based disorders/disruptions.

As a person who used to have a very weak voice with no depth and power, I used to feel so angry about the fact that I could not do anything to change it. I read and watched tons of books&videos that 'seemed' to contain information on how to develop a deeper voice. Well, none of them really worked. My concern became bigger, and I even thought of doing a vocal surgery to make my voice deeper...

Superb World-building

I read, and enjoyed, the first in the series, The Elder Blood Chronicles (In Shades of Grey), due mostly to the inspired world-building. Still, a first time novel, it had some issues: a couple rough patches, a need for some pretty serious proofreading. Blood, Honor and Dreams fixes these issues, and now that the world can shine through uninterrupted, I'm very happy with the result.

In BHD, the world of Sanctuary is becoming rather tense. Some new, semi-unknown force called the "Blight" is overrunning entire nations, and everyone's feeling the emotional and political strain. Political machinations are coming to fruition, and the faction composed of Jala and her champions is upsetting the balance of power. While an outright, all-out war fails to break out just yet, the tension is definitely there, and on the "cold-hot" conflict scale, we're definitely lukewarm and rising. Meanwhile, there is a distinctly romantic/coming of age subplot going on between Jala and her new husband, Finn.

So here's the breakdown. The worldbuilding continues to be awesome. Seriously, it's high in originality value, as well as being good. Fantasy's a century old now; conceptually new, or at least very different than usual worlds are rare and something valued not just within this story, but due to how the world can spark our own imaginations and flights of fancy. I wasn't crazy about the level of romance/love present in the book. Yes, it's probably perfect for teen readers, or even adults with a heart. I was just in a mood for a pure hack&slash&blast, but couldn't wait to read this first. The political plots and elements are well executed, if occasionally semi predictable, but that's a common issue if plots are proceeding realistically (ie, not too much authorial "and then out of nowhere, meteor" type twists or reliance on idiotic/clairvoyant behavior). The writing's technically and descriptively solid; I'm not a huge fan of the meter or tempo (or whatever that's called in prose), but again, that's probably just me, and only in a few spots. The action picks up, which is nice, and Jala experiences a very nice level of growth, both in character and in smiting power. The book is very well proofread, and I've heard from the author, on her forum, that sometime early 2012 the new proofreader should edit the first novel, which will be nice.

Overall, a solid novel, which is raised to "5 stars" by excellent world-building. Should appeal to teen (including girls) and adults, with particular appeal for those who appreciate interesting world concepts.

Make Sure You Get the Full Length Book!! There is more after Chapter 25...

I really enjoyed this book, but I felt like it ended a bit too soon. With that thought, I ventured to Melissa Myer's website to find out when Book 3 would be coming out. To my surprise, she had the first chapter of Book 3 published and available for reading. However, there appeared to be a huge disconnect to me between where Blood, Honor and Dreams (Book 2) left off and From the Ashes (Book 3) began, so I wrote to the author (Melissa) making an inquiry on this. Melissa, totally personable and friendly, responded immediately; we determined that the digital content of Book 2 on Amazon did not download the full book properly. In addition to sending me a full electronic copy immediately, she has made arrangements with Amazon to get a new digital version of Book 2 uploaded and requested that all purchasers be notified of the new version, as well. Very grateful to get the complete full version of Blood, Honor and Dreams and eager to read From the Ashes...

An epic story with great characters continues

Finn, Jala and their friends are a fun and unstoppable team, with enough obstacles to put their honor to the test with Sanctuary nearing war and lethal Blights threatening everything. But aside from the battles ahead that they face, the truth behind the love in Finn and Jala's relationship is put to the test, and it may be the one enemy strong enough to take them down.

I love Marrow even more as he adds some laughs (with dangerous intents) to the more serious nature he had in the first book. When Emily joins them, being unable to see her and the Blights makes them even more terrifying. I felt that Valor's character really shone for me and I hope to see even more of him in the future of this series.

Overall, I really enjoyed seeing more sides to all of the great characters to be found in here. I look forward to reading on to see what happens next as Jala heads into the Darklands.
