Another must read from Lisa Mondello

Let me first say that this a wonderfully touching book. It’s part of a series, but it’s a standalone that you will love.
Upon the death of Ian’s dear friends Carlos and Brenda, Ian goes to VT for their funeral and was summoned to the reading of their will. Abby , who has been taking care of the 3 children since the death of their parents, is summoned as well. They are advised that Ian is made the guardian of the children , and Abby has to live with the children and Ian for a year to help the transition. Also, the must try and contact Carlos’s family in Mexico. Abby is distressed, but for the sake of the children , will move to Dakota with Ian and the kids. Both Ian and Abby have had physical and emotional losses, but will do anything for the children.
Without giving much away, I will say you will not be disappointed with this book. Ms Mondello once again gives us another winner.

Dakota Hearts Series Book Six
Ian McKinnon is moving forward in his life after the military. He is focused on opening the Wounded Veterans Center to help others. And then he gets a message that once again changes his life.

Abby Townsend’s life has also changed once again. First she lost her husband and now her best friends. She can’t lose the only family she has left and will do whatever it takes to keep them. Even moving to another state with a very annoying man.

The reader has been given glimpses of Ian throughout this series. I really enjoyed reading his story. The author has done a good job of researching some of the aspects of having a prosthetic and how it would affect the character. I’m hoping we’ll get to see more of Ian’s family that we meet in this story in upcoming books.

Loved the story of Ian and Abby. They both dealt will losses, and stayed closed up from love until they met each other. Beautiful story, that pulled me right in from the beginning. I read the whole book in one evening. Would have liked to read more like their wedding and future children, maybe that will be woven into another story. Either way? I would highly recommend this story.

An ancient treasure

This is an extraordinary little book, surprising with the wisdom, depth and accuracy of perception, inspiration, insight, and reasoning, for the time in which it was written. It predates modern psychological theory and research by over a millinium! ThiS translation uses language that appears too modern, it would be interesting to have one that uses language that predates the late 19th and 20th centuries.

Not the best choice of textbook

This book has poorly edited cases but little else. As if any student has a choice in a textbook for class, but for any professor considering this book, look elsewhere. I have taken classes taught by two of the authors and this book does not represent what they are capable of. I really expected better from them. I was very disappointed with this casebook.

Between 1958 and 2002, Luciano Berio wrote fourteen pieces entitled Sequenza, along with several versions of the same work for different instruments, revisions of the original pieces and also the parallel Chemins series, where one of the Sequenzas is used as the basis for a new composition on a larger scale. The Sequenza series is one of the most remarkable achievements of the late twentieth century - a collection of virtuoso pieces that explores the capabilities of a solo instrument and its player, making extreme technical demands of the performer whilst developing the musical vocabulary of the instrument in compositions so assured and so distinctive that each piece both initiates and potentially exhausts the repertoire of a new genre. The Sequenzas have significantly influenced the development of composition for solo instruments and voice, and there is no comparable series of works in the output of any other composer. Series of pieces tend to be linked by the instruments for which the composer writes, but this is a series in which the pieces are linked instead by the variety of instruments for which Berio composed. The varied approaches taken by the contributors in discussing the pieces demonstrate the richness of this repertoire and the many levels on which Berio and these landmark compositions can be considered. Contributions are arranged under three main headings: Performance Issues; Berio's Compositional Process and Aesthetics; and Analytical Approaches.

Janet K. Halfyard is a senior lecturer at UCE Birmingham Conservatoire. Her research includes work on Luciano Berio, Cathy Berberian, extended vocal technique and performance practice issues in contemporary repertoire, and she is active as a performer with the contemporary music ensemble, decibel. Her publications also include work on film and television music: she is the author of Danny Elfman’s Batman: a film score guide (2004) in the Scarecrow Press Film Score Guide series and has contributed to European Film Music (2006) in Ashgate’s Popular and Folk Music series.

A good quality introductory text and reference

The world of Virology is becoming more important by the day. The statistically overdue influenza pandemic makes rapid understanding of viruses an even more urgent topic. I have found this book to be of great benefit when explaining concepts ("What does H5N1 mean?") to those who need to get a scientific view of viruses but are not life scientists themselves, especially government leaders, corporate executives and the like. Unfortunately material just cannot be produced fast enough to keep pace with the evolution in scientific understanding that is taking place. I highly recommend this book; however for those new to virology it is not a "quick afternoon read". It does have very likeable features such as the chapter structure which begins with a synopsis called "At a glance" and a list of abbreviations and a standardised colour coding for molecular diagrams. The "Virologists Vocabulary"(pp335-347) is really a glossary and although not all-embracing (big ask) it is very useful. Glossaries and definition sections must become mandatory components of all texts I believe, especially given the expansion rate of jargon and abbreviation.
Overall, this is a good quality book that is easy to read and well endowed with illustrations. As an aside biomedical and scientific illustrations do need to improve dramatically in all texts. I am aware of the time/cost and effort issues of this statement however a good illustration is worth (to many) more than 1000 words and a poor illustration can be simply counter productive.

Rapid education in virology (which is absolutely essential) requires students and educators alike to have easy access to verified comparitive material. DVD's or other electronic complementary delivery techniques would have been of great assistance. SeePrinciples of Molecular Virology (Standard Edition), Fourth Edition as a useful, but not exclusive example.

I love this book

This is the most friendly text book I've seen. It's written in a very "reader-friendly" format. The organization of the material makes it easier to read and understand. It's not your typical dry reading, colorless book. For me, if I have to try to tackle such a difficult topic as Virology, I don't want a book that will put me to sleep. I find this book to be a much better option. I think you will too.

This is an OK book on virology.
My problem is that it reads funny, like they were trying to cram in as much information they could without having it read well.
I seriously hope that the second edition is better.
