Helpful book

I've found this book very helpful. Vocabulary, short dialogues and contextualized usage make learning and remembering Gujarati easier. My husband, a native Gujarati speaker, has aided in pronunciations. I still have not downloaded the sound files to comment on that aspect of the book. If you want to learn Gujarati and you learn visually, this book is a good resource.

Rabbi Marc Gafni is a Kabbalist, someone who studies the mystical interpretations of biblical books, handed down over many generations. Through his studies Gafni became fascinated with the power of biblical myths to awaken the soul while also helping us understand our earthly purpose. The more he delved into the Kabbalah, the more he became interested in the individual blueprint of the soul--how each person seemed born to a different soul-driven destiny.

"Your soul print is your personal signature," explains Gafni. "It is the contour and content of your soul--it's character.... It is even more singular to you than your genes and chromosomes."

In blending his two passions, "soul prints" and myths, Rabbi Gafni created an ambitious spiritual self-help book filled with sage advice on living in connection with the soul. Just as fingerprints are unique, so, too, says Rabbi Gafni, are soul prints: each human soul has an individual mark that it leaves behind on everyone it touches. Gafni, dean of the Merlitz Public Culture Center in Israel, weaves together autobiographical reflections with tips and exercises designed to help readers discover their soul prints and find fulfillment. Gafni begins with the premise that everyone is lonely and many people look for cures in places where they will never find them, such as sexual encounters. Many of the exercises in this splendid book are designed to help readers confront, and then cure, that loneliness. Gafni suggests that readers share what they learn while reading this book with a lonely person they know. Readers are then asked to make a "Soul Print box" that contains the things that are most important to them, and then to show the contents of that box to one other person. Gafni advocates the practice of random acts of kindness: "Bring happiness to one person each week, for no apparent reason." His tremendous breadth distinguishes this volume from so many spiritualized self-help tomes. He draws on the fantasy novella Flatlands and the teachings of Talmudic rabbis, on psychologists and prophets. He tells his own stories and biblical stories. Though steeped in Jewish wisdom, this book will be accessible and helpful to readers of many faiths. Gafni occasionally states the obvious (as when he notes that if "after a long day of living your life, you feel as if you are on the verge of tears," something might be amiss). But those few banalities can't ruin this insightful book. this book touched my heart

I seldom write reviews although I am an avid reader of a wide variety of books. This book, however is one which has inspired me and motivated me to make necessary changes in my life.
Rabbi Gafni has the gift of making the stories of the Bible come to life. I have read or heard many of these stories before, but have never been able to relate to them in a way that actually touched me emotionally. I enjoyed the Soul Print Practice sections of the book particularly because they helped clarify areas of my life that needed healing and a perhaps a new perspective.
This book is about living your truth, no matter what your religious background or beliefs.

Beautiful book that will help you connect with others

Heard the taped version of SOUL PRINTS, written and read by Marc
Gafni . . . he is a rabbi and dean of the Merlitz Public Culture Center in
Israel, but don't be put off by either that title or his religion . . . this
is a beautiful book that begins with the premise that everyone is
lonely and many people look for cures in places where they will
never find them.

Gafni further contends that our soul prints can help us--and others--deal
with this loneliness . . . just as fingerprints are unique, so too
are soul prints--the individual marks left behind by each human soul
on everyone it touches.

One key to finding happiness in life is to share these soul prints
with others . . . and that point is movingly brought home by Gafni's tale
of a rabbi who told his family he was too sick to go to temple
on Yom Kippur (the holiest day of the year for Jews) . . . when they
all leave, the rabbi then sneaks off to play golf . . . on the very first
hole, he hits a tremendous drive and it goes right into the cup
for a hole-in-one . . . yet because he can't share his story with
anybody because he has told a lie, it is meaningless.

In addition, Gafni says there's an easy way to see if another
person of the opposite sex is right for you . . . you have to be
able to share your childhood with him or her; if you can't do this,
then you can't share your soul print and you won't have a
meaningful relationship.

Lastly, I liked how the author gave practical suggestions
on ways to connect with others . . . for instance, in a
restaurant, never let yourself be served without knowing the
name of your waiter or waitress . . . when you do this, you'll
see the other person for the first time.

I've lately adapted this last idea and have noticed quite
a difference, in my approach as well as my server's.

This book's a Gold Rush - Rush out to Read it! Soul Prints - What a treasure chest of stories and teaching and guidance! My husband and I are both voraciously reading it - fighting over who gets to read it when! Gafni is one of those alchemist authors who knows how to turn the written word into gold. Every page sparkles-whether it be through spell binding stories, transformative "soul print practices", or deep mystical insights. Gafni draws from what seems to be a fathomless reservoir of wisdom, and knowledge of the mystical mechanics of the world. And yet, he expresses these depths and mysteries in the most accessible of ways. Making the complex, quite simple. Likewise he can take the most common of ideas and cast it in a new light. Making the seemingly simple, quite complex. For instance, he returns us to the beauty of the most basic of Biblical texts, taking Biblical stories we have heard a dozen times and revealing in them insights we never would have imagined-insights that can revolutionize the way that we live in the world. This book is the perfect read for the mystical initiate, or for the business man, for a person searching, or for a person who has found, yet wants deepening. This alchemist author helps us bcome alchemist readers - able to turn our most common characteristics into Soul Prints of gold. Eureka!!!

As real as the Cretaceous gets

An irritating flaw of much science fiction and even historical fiction is that authors assume that if the reader is willing to suspend disbelief about one thing (say, time travel), then the author has unlimited license to change what is known about the setting of the narrative and even human nature itself. The result is too often a silly fairy tale of distorted human actions and emotions that misses the chance to explore the time and place in which the story ostensibly takes place. Not so with this well written and fast-paced book.
I enjoyed Cretaceous Dawn so much, I think, because it does not twist its subject matter to fit the mold of a Hollywood dinosaur movie. Just because we live in the age of mammals today does not mean that tigers and bears crouch behind every tree. So it was also in the age of dinosaurs; then, as now, it was more truly the age of plants and insects, so it makes sense that the main characters, transported back in time, take quite a while to understand fully where and when they have arrived. This adventure tale is therefore also, in several ways, a mystery, but it is scientists who do most of the 'detective' work. Small, bright moments of discovery illuminate the larger quest just to stay alive. The authors, both scientists themselves, cleverly but delicately use this device to make sense for us of a world that is in many ways similar to our own, but differs in important aspects. One is exemplified by the acute loneliness - felt by the transplanted protagonists - of 65 million years of separation from the rest of the human race. Even an explorer on the far side of the moon is closer to home than this. Refreshingly and heart-rendingly, time travel here is much more than just a literary device to bring humans back to the cretaceous. The other distinguishing aspect of the cretaceous, of course, is dinosaurs. Oh yes, there are dinosaurs: lurking, heard, seen, smelled, and eaten, all, deliciously, realistically, in their natural habitat.

Clever and Enjoyable

This is a very entertaining book to read. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The authors come up with some new twists in time travel, sending a group of people back to the days of Tyrannosaurus Rex. Meanwhile, back in the present, where we have different terrors, there are the missing people, as well as various bodies and body parts, that require a police investigation. And what is science fiction without a few evil geniuses creeping about, all full of hidden motives behind innocent smiles? It’s all lots of fun to read, and quite suspenseful. The main characters are intriguing and the action is exciting. It’s all clever and well written. Just a great read from first page to last.

Interesting Time Travel story

This was a fun read and a pretty good science fiction novel. The pacing was very good and many of the science in the story was technically sound & fit the narrative without being too technical. I would have liked this book a little more if the theory of the Time Travel had a few more details. Again, if I wanted to learn the theoretical Physics of time travel, I would look for a college Graduate (post - Bac.) level Advanced Physics text book. I wouldn't be reading a science fiction. All in all, I liked this story a lot.

Patent preparation can be tedious, time consuming

Patent preparation can be tedious, time consuming, stressful, and error prone, especially under time pressure, so I greatly appreciate the highly efficient, practical streamlining methodologies, frameworks and tips this book presents.

Particularly valuable are detailed examples and templates, which leverage common Microsoft Office software tools to automate key tasks, translating abstract concepts into simple, immediately effective practical working methods.

The author strongly advocates giving claims and drawings top priority, structuring the patent to explicitly support key claims, thus providing a critical and useful organizational framework.

The book stresses "a picture is worth a thousand words" philosophy, excellent advice, but coordinating drawings with writing can be an error prone logistical nightmare, so the drawing organization and automation methods are particularly helpful.

There's also excellent advice on how to best prioritize time and energy devoted to specific patent sections, and how to efficiently communicate your ideas to maximize the chances of the quickest approval process, while also helping minimize certain types of litigation risk.

I definitely recommend this book for both experienced practitioners and also inventors who want to reduce legal costs by helping prepare some aspects of their patent applications.

I particularly enjoyed reading the application of Zipf’s Law to the patent drafting process. While everyone tout the importance of prioritizing, the author provides a formula that objectively calculates and allocates the amount of time one should invest for each patent section, right down to the minute. This book is not only a playbook of patent prosecution logistics, it is also a handbook that tackles area of drafting inconsistency through the use of word processing tools to eliminate errors. Overall, an outstanding accumulation of refinements that amount to a priceless resource for any patent practitioner.

This adventure is fun to run and play in

This adventure is fun to run and play in. My only complaint is the cover art in this series. Read on to see a much more detailed account of why I feel that way. But first the story.

The story is a great adventure to track down the hill giant who attacked your adopted town. We had a great time playing. Some real challenges and yet also some really fun encounters on the way, with the boat ride and a stow away. I would recommend this to any group. I see no real faults in it.

My only complaint is the cover art. Jesper Ejsing is an amazing artist, and technically is fantastic. I am not sure if it is the art director or Jasper but I literally have a hard time figuring out what is going on in these background action images for this series. The rest of Jasper's art on line is much more accessible visually.

I am not sure what Paizo is doing but this continues in the rest of the series as it goes on. It is very disappointing. I run a good art school and I am usually very impressed with Jasper's work, but although it is technically perfect as always, in this series, it is often visually just overcrowded and sometimes downright macabre or demented in the way the giants are presented. I do not get it. In so much of the rest of Jasper's work there is a subtle nobility and depth to the figures, as if they are being treated with respect. Strange as it sounds, it just feels like the images and the way they are being laid out do not respect the characters or enemies in the story line. I know, it sounds strange, but look at the rest of Jasper's work on line and you will see the difference. It has to do with how the people are portrayed and the way to is staged.

I would suggest a difference approach in the future. Too much "action" in a scene does not make it exciting, it just makes it busy and inaccessible. And too much ugly demented looking enemies is a real turn off. I mean, I always thought giants were humanoids, not inbred freak shows like the ogres.

The worst cover is the next one in the series with the hideous looking female hill giant chief. The next worst is the Ice tomb of the Giant Queen in which I literally cannot figure out what the hell is going on in the background other than some kind of upside-down battle. And because of the demented nature of the other giants on the other covers I did not even know the Queen was supposed to be undead. She just looks messed up.

I hope future covers are a little more tame or balanced in some fashion and less confusing. It seems a waste of Jasper's remarkable talent to assemble poorly balanced macabre works in what could have been inviting and inspiring images like almost everything else he has done.
