A well written, honest, and at times humorous account about the averted air disaster of QF32, an Airbus A380 that suffered an explosion shortly after take off from Changi airport in 2010, with 469 passengers on board. The book begins with an interesting account of the pilot's family history and upbringing, and takes the reader through various aspects of his successful career. Undoubtedly these life experiences would ultimately contribute to the way in which he led and controlled the safe landing of this aircraft and the evacuation of all passengers.
There was quite a bit of technical material in this book, which also felt a little repetitive at times, however it was an interesting read.

In November 2010 an Airbus A380 flying from Singapore to Sydney, Australia with 469 people aboard, had one of its engines explode,destroying a significant part of the left wing and rendering much of its sophisticated flight systems inoperable.
This first hand account of the drama that unfolded is written by the Pilot-In Command of Qantas flight QF32 ,Captain Richard de Crespigny,and his skill and experience,coupled with the ability to record what happened, make this book a riveting read.
de Crespigny's highly experienced flight crew, with the addition of two senior pilots flying as Check Captains, contributed much to the successful outcome of what was very nearly the world's biggest airline disaster.
We couldn't put this book down . For anyone who has ever flown ,or has any interest in planes at all, QF32 is a "must read".

Flying on the edge

This a good read and would recommend it to those interested in aviation. Little did I know what really happened and how close it came to disaster. This is a well written personal account with just the right amount of technical information for the average reader with an aviation interest.
