Adds little to series, very confusing if have not been reading series

First off let me say I love the series. But I find some of the reviewers tend to feel that because it is a good series, it can contain no bad books.
For anyone who has been reading the series, this book adds no character development, no additional background and essentially no plot activity except for the obvious engagement of Marcus and Cassidy. Their getting engaged should not be a surprise to any followers of the series. It was obviously implicit from the last book.
While one of the hallmarks of this series has been the loving characters and their joie-de-vie, it does not come across in this short novella. So you gain no new insights into the series. No significant action occurs to snag your interest. The series is strong because of the moments of gentle human happiness that resonate with the reader; but these were missing for me in this novella.
This novella is inexpensive, which often works as a good mechanism to introduce a series to new readers. In this case I would strongly discourage any readers who have not been following the series from attempting to read this novella or even worse using it to judge the series. Unless you have some background on the characters and the rules of magic in this series you will not only be lost but also get a bad impression of what is a great series.

Swordfights & Lullabies... I just finished it and I have to say, knowing that the last book on the A Modern Witch series is coming in June, gives my heart a little sadness, just like Cass saying goodbye to her crowd to start a new life with Marcus and Morgan. However, if Ms. Geary keeps writing these novellas, my heart can rest :D
Well done, Ms. Geary, and I will be waiting for June 21 for Marcus' and Cass' wedding!

Just received and just read Swordfights & Lullabies (A Modern Witch Morsel) and am AGAIN blown away by Ms. Geary's creativity and writing ability. How can she make me laugh and cry in the same paragraph? The laughter is full blown and wonderful and the tears are deep but tender--just incredible. Thank You for this little morsel to "tide" us over until June when the next installment of the series rolls ashore.
If you haven't read any of the series, this would give you a fair indication of Debora Geary's talent--wrapped up in a quick package. Then you'll need to start at book one and feast on the whole set; it is that marvelous! Don't miss out.
